The project is located at Surendranagar district of Gujarat state in India and operates in this area since 1999. It is a project that was created for the welfare of small farm holders and to promote the organic agriculture. This project has a big concern of the socio-economic status of the farmers reason why they committed themselves to uplifting the living and working standards of these small farmers in a direct way and helping them in exporting their products with no intermediaries. The project handles different organic products such as Cotton, Sesame, Bajra, Jowar, Groundnut and Chili in Sharif and Cumin, Wheat, Green gram, Black gram, Kidney bean and Castor in Rabi.
The project met all principles established on Fair Choice Standard, minimizing the impact of their activities with the environment and assuring the welfare of the staff and the community, both related to the project. There is a formal contract between the company and the producers, which clearly defines the responsibilities of each part and the price agreed by them. Based on the profit, the company is giving premium on organic products to all farmers in the group. The company provides funds for education, health services, community support, technology and cultural development. The company promotes schools and lodges for young and native people of the region. The project obtained Fair Choice Certification on February 2010.
Woventex Pvt. Ltd.
The project was established in 1995 in India. They are basically engaged in manufacturing of cotton fabrics. The Factory is situated in Ichalkaranji and it is being built with environment friendly approach. They are now entering in the market of organic fabrics and they have been inspected under Fair Choice Standard to asses compliance with the Standard. This is still under evaluation.
